I live in New York and California want to visit with my girlfriend. I want to show her a beautiful waterfall. Would Yosemite Park is the place to go? How far is it from Hollywood, that’s where we thought the most of our time there? Any other tips are welcome. I’ve never been to California.

What have the top golfers been saying on Twitter this week? Let us check out.
There’s only place to start – the feud involving Ian Poulter (Ianjamespoulter – follwers 699,026).
It was nicely documented by UK golf blogger Andy Wool (@akw144) who concluded that: “it’s a bit of a ‘how not to’ for celebs on Twitter. Enjoyable none the less…”
Not surprisingly, it starts during an Arsenal game (Poulter is a big Gunners fan) although, at the time, Poulter’s tweet seems pretty innocuous.
‘What a amazing 20 yard volley from Fabregas’ he says, only to draw this reply from RTOAD:
‘wasn’t really amazing was it you slippery wannabee piece of SH*T’
A cleary irked Poulter responds ‘who is the wannabee with 51 friends your looking a little light, grow up, or shall I just say grow. Novice.’
And, as the feud escalates, Poulter points out just how popular he is: ‘692,692 followers know what i mean. shame you dont. silly boy grow up.’
RTOAD hits back: ‘please jump out of your own arse and don’t insult my intelligence you ignorant, simple, dense little man.’
And so it goes on. Real head in the hands stuff if you’re Poulter’s PR people, with the Vic Reeves catchphrase “You wouldn’t let it lie” springing to mind.
However, Poulter being Poulter he’ll probably take the positives. More publicity and hence another step towards his stated aim of getting 1million followers.
For full transcript of the feud, check Andy’s blog.
Michelle Wie (themichellewie – followers 10,202) has had a tough time from the press and indeed fellow players over the years but she changed opinions at the recent Solheim Cup and comes across on Twitter as both intelligent and charming.
Here’s a couple from the last few days:
‘So I’m a huge klutz. I resprained my ankle on the way to lunch and then I burnt my finger when I spilt hot tea on it.’
‘I need bubble wrap for my body….’
‘Now off to Copenhagen to do the final push for golf to be in the olympics!!!’ (Michelle, along with Padraig Harrington, is off to participate in golf’s final presentation of its Olympic bid to International Olympic Committee members in Copenhagen on Friday – full story.
And what about those heading off to play in the Presidents Cup in San Francisco this week?
Disappointingly, only a handful use Twitter (pull your finger out Tiger!), although some of those bound for San Francisco are the most entertaining users of social media.
We’ll start with the daddy, Stewart Cink (stewartcink – followers 967,258):
‘went by to see butch for three hours on the way to Prez Cup in SanFran.’
‘played there today. Very good track and best greens I’ve ever putted.
‘Text from Bubba Watson: “Can you Twitter that I am on Twitter?” @bubbawatson. Resourceful..’
USPGA champion YE Yang (Y_E_Yang – followers 601) is fast gaining a reputation as one of the most excitable tweeters around.
‘the greens are the best I have ever seen. the tees have better grass condition then most greens ive seen, they have 158 rds per year – ha!!’
‘arrived at SF. checked into the Fairmont Hotel. the site of “the Rock” filming. don’t see any yellow ferraris. hotel is very posh’
‘the weather here and the scenery in Northern Cali is just magnificent. Mike Wier, Geoff Ogilvy and Goosen. T Clark all checked in.’
‘i am officially excited. AJ says the course is cool.’
Hunter Mahan (Hunter Mahan – followers 737) played some great golf in the Ryder Cup last year and appears to be in giddy mood heading to San Francisco.
‘On the plane ready to go to San Fransisco!! Can’t wait for In n out, MJ, and the presidents cup!!!’
‘In San Fran playing Harding park, in great shape can’t wait till Thursday!!’
‘Just played golf with Michael Jordan!!! Couldn’t have had more fun!!’
If you want dry wit then turn to Geoff Ogilvy (geoffogilvy – followers 7,062).
‘We are having dinner with a shark tonight’
‘The view from team dinner tonight’ (click through to picture of Golden Gate Bridge)
‘And this is the view from the room. Just a reminder where the shark may send us if we misbehave’ (Geoff puts up a picture of Alcatraz).
Just before publishing this article, I’ve just noticed that the latest tweet in my list is from Natalie Gulbis (natalie_gulbis – followers 28,560)
It reads: ‘Me and the morning Bagpiper’. Pardon? You’ll just have to look it up yourselves!

Here we know some new gossip from golf and stars:
Monty favourite for victory
It’s not often we here those words anymore. However, Europe’s Ryder Cup skipper is playing in this week’s Egyptian Open and Sky Bet’s golf compilers have even gone to the trouble of pricing the event up, making Montgomerie the 3/1 favourite. The opposition? Several European Challenge Tour players, some Egyptian-based professionals as well as local and regional amateurs. So is big Colin just there to rack up a confidence-boosting win? Maybe, but the fact that he has his first Egyptian course design project underway at Citystars at Sharm el Sheikh may just have something to do with it.
Office star set to appear in golf movie
Fan of golf? Fan of the American Office? If so, you may be interested to hear that the US David Brent, Steve Carell, is rumoured to be appearing in “Missing Links,” a golf comedy based on a novel from ESPN’s irreverant golf writer Rick Reilly. “Carell has turned overconfident, deluded characters into a specialty both with his Michael Scott role on “The Office” and in development projects like “Brigadier Gerard,” says the Hollywood Reporter who broke the news. Any chance of Ricky Gervais being given a cameo? After all, he did have a Full Swing Golf simulator installed at his London home last year.
His name is on the trophy
It’s one of those things we like to say when a player gets the rub of the green or flukes a long shot. “Oh yes,” we chuckle, “it looks like his name is on the trophy today.” Well, on the Tour de las Americas this week that phrase can be used from the first tee with no doubt whatsoever. Why so? Well the event is being played in Paraguay and is a celebration of the nation’s finest golfer. It is called the Carlos Franco Invitational, is being played at the Carlos Franco Golf and Country Club and one of the favourites to win is, err, Carlos Franco. It may seem to be an ego-trip of monumental proportions, but give Carlos a break: he built the course himself, he’s co-funded the event and the profits are being ploughed back into the Carlos Franco bank account. Only kidding – the chief benficiary is Paraguayan golf.
You say tomato, I say tournament
The Ladies European Tour plays the second event of its short Asian Swing this week on the honeymooners island of Jeju. These days tournaments (especially in the States) can have some rather peculiar titles, but few have been quite as baffling as this one – the Daishin Securities Tomato Tour Korean Ladies Masters. So many questions, so few answers. Do the tomatoes need protection? What is a “tomato tour”? Is it something to keep the honeymooners occupied during the day? The event takes place at the Cypress Country Club, but you can’t help thinking it should be at Cherry Hills, or the Vines, or even Plum Creek. We’d continue with the lame gags but our knowledge of tomato types has run dry (unless someone knows of a Beefeater Golf and Country Club).
Tuning into Twitter
We’re of the firm belief that golfers, more than any other sportspeople, make the best tweeters. And if, say, you’ve had a bet and want to know how your player is feeling and there’s nothing from official sources then make a beeline for Twitter. Soon after finishing his opening round in the HSBC, @Oliver_Wilson revealed: “Happy with -1 which was good considering swung it like my dad for 9 holes.Birdie, birdie finish was needed.Hopefully swing turns up tomorrow!” And from Paul Casey, who is returning from injury: “Very happy with -5 today. Must admit I had no idea how today was going to go. Nice to be back on the course.” And “Put the new Vr driver into play today. @nikegolf have a picture of which position I had the Str8Fit in. I think it’s given me 5 extra yards.” In fact, they’re doing well to keep us informed. As Supertweeter @Ianjamespoulter revealed: “Hello twitter friends sorry for not keeping you up 2 speed, china doesn’t allow social networking sites, so doing it from my berry.” Meanwhile, over at @PGA_JohnDaly: “I think I need 3-4 buckets of KFC and some gravy and I can take care of it! haha.”And “Waiting to see how many people use the lingo from SouthPark at Stugis this year! They may just get their a$$ kicked—ya think? LOL.”
On-off, off-on
In the week that the PGA 2010 schedule was released, there has been rather less talk about what the LPGA will be up to next year. Which is interesting because, according to Golfweek, a preliminary schedule was sent to the players which might have had plenty of them scratching their heads. 27 tournament weeks were announced, but only 13 events were named. The other 14 weeks were designated “on” with every other week of the year nominated as “off” (in the case of April an entire month is “off”). The official schedule is due to be released during the Tour Championship at the end of the month and the number of “on/off” gaps remaining will be an interesting early test of the new commissioner Michael Whan’s leadership.

Hairdressing salons must be hubs of gossip. Women like to have pretty hairdos and they also like to gossip. When they meet at hairstyling salons, they gossip.
They gossip about themselves, friends, relatives, neighbours, celebrities and many other people and things. They also like to read gossip about celebrities, in magazines at home and in hairdressing salons.
Have you ever wondered what gossip you might hear in a hair salon full of women celebrities?
Wendy Iles: No. Are you asking me?
Sally: That was just my rhetorical question but, yes, I am asking you what gossip you hear from celebrities while you style their hair.
Wendy: Well …
Sally: You know. You style the hair of leading movie and television actors, top fashion models and other celebrities.
Wendy: Yes, but -
Sally: Well just what do Hilary Swank, Penelope Cruz, Monica Bellucci, Frieda Pinto and celebrities like that gossip about in your salon?
Wendy: Well, I don’t serve people like that in a salon, only in private at their homes or their business premises. I’m based in Paris and I serve clients mainly in Paris, London, New York and Hollywood.
Sally: Who are the celebrities you serve?
Wendy: Those charming people you just mentioned are among the celebrities I serve.
Sally: Who else, for example?
Wendy: Eva Longoria, of “Desperate Housewives” on television, Maggie Chung, of the movie “In the mood for love”, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dita von Tesse, Charlotte Rampling …
Sally: What do you chat about while you are styling their hair?
Wendy: We engage in cordial conversation to pass the time pleasantly while I’m working on their hair.
Sally: I mean do you hear about Penelope Cruz’s secret romance with or rumoured engagement that other actor, Monica Bellucci’s revealing video on YouTube, or Hilary Swank’s new, multi-million-dollar apartment in New York?
Wendy: You seem to know a lot of gossip about celebrities.
Sally: I learn about them by reading women’s magazines, watching celebrity news shows on TV, following postings about celebrities on the web and receiving news feeds by email.
Wendy: Do you learn much about celebrities by listening to gossip at a hair salon?
Sally: No … What do they tell you?
Wendy: Not too much. I don’t ask my clients personal or prying questions. It
really depends on the day what they feel like revealing or speaking
about. They will lead all conversations. I allow them to set the tone.
Sally: I understand: you’re their hairstylist, not a psychologist. You fix what’s on the head, not what’s going on inside it.
Wendy: Sometimes they are just exhausted and prefer silence.
Sally: I hear you are shooting commercials with famous movie director Martin Scorsese in Los Angeles. What have you to say about that?
Wendy: Well, the beauty campaign is very new so no words on that until it’s released. I’m pleased to be working on such a nice project with such a charming man as Mr Scorsese. I feel honoured to be working alongside such an iconic film director as he.
Sally: That’s good news but do you hear of any scandals or secrets about other celebrities, any sensational or embarrassing revelations?
Wendy: Not really. Even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you, not even in a whisper.
Sally: Would you tell me anything like that off the record?
Wendy: No. It would not be professional or ethical for me to tell anybody anything I happened to learn about my clients. I don’t do that. It’s like a doctor doesn’t talk to one patient about another, because that would not be right. He wouldn’t say, “Do you know your neighbour, Mrs Soandso, suffers from in-gown toenails? So I wouldn’t tell you if actress Whatshername failed to win a lead role in a film because on the day of an audition she suffered an attack of unruly follicles.
Sally: So your client’s never tell you any personal secrets or society news?
Wendy: Oh, a client may share a little secret with me at sometime. One delightful client who I’ve been serving for many years told me the other day, “Wendy, you’re the best hairstylist I know but I never recommend you to my friends.” When I asked why, she explained, “Because then their hairstyles would look as good as mine!”
Sally: Who was she?
Wendy: That’s confidential.
Sally: Still I wonder what celebrities might gossip about in a hair salon?
Wendy: You’re dying to know so you ask a hairdresser but, honestly, I can’t answer that one for you.
Wendy Iles is a hairstylist of international renown who began her career 25 years ago in Australia.
