Does anybody have ideas of some factual gossip that actually had some impact on history, preferbaly American history?
Anything surrounding a person, event, etc, would be helpful, as I’m writing a speech on gossip and I would like some more concrete evidence than I aleady have. I already mentioned Voltaire, the Trojan Wars, and Ulysses’ wanderings…

A little known fact is that in the 1920’s, the famous Hollywood sign (formerly the Hollywoodland sign) had a competing sister sign called the Outpost Sign. At the time, it was the largest neon sign in the world. The sign’s still there, not far from the Hollywood sign, but toppled over, covered by weeds. Does ANY one have any information about it? Thank you.

Find more about:
I just landed a job with a company and I was warned by a co-worker that they layoff employees regularly. I am not 100% convinced that he/she is just gossiping because they do not want me to advance my career. Where can I get this information?

Hollywood movie are hardly ever about teaching the public anything – it’s all entertainment, and the faster, the better.
Films such as Alexander and the more recent one have nothing to do with Greek, Persian, or other ancient cultures and our understanding of them. All people (especially on the “Heroes” sides) talk like Americans, and, more importantly, think like Americans. There is nothing historic about these movies apart from the geographical settings and the costumes. No attempt is made at understanding the cultural gaps that exist between ancient and modern people.
Intellectuals are aware of this. The rest just go there to enjoy the action and eat the popcorn. Not much you can do about that.
