we will not have a car, so it must be within walking distance kinda…..what is a good street to look for hotels on that would place us in the center of the action? would Sunset Blvd be okay? we would like to be able to walk as much as possible, without the help of public transportation…

Well since both properties are next door to each other there is no advantage to the location which is great. This is really a wash with neither having an advantage over the other. I will tell you my impressions and you can decide for yourself.
Paris: Rather small rooms. The windows are quite large and the views are very good. The whole “French” thing gets to be a bit tedious, though. I don’t especially like the mimes and the staff struggling to use as many French words as possible and all the “cutsie” French touches wear thin after a while. But that may just be my taste.
Planet Hollywood the rooms are a bit larger but the standard rooms have small windows. (the Vista rooms are much better). The lobby is too small so if you arrive during a busy time the wait to check in can be quite long.
Neither has an exceptional pool so that, too, is a wash. Paris has its pool on the roof and it is pretty lame. Just a few planters around and it gets pretty hot. Planed Hollywood has two plain pools on a deck off the first floor.
Both have good buffets. Paris has the “Eiffel Tower” but it is only about half the size of the Stratosphere at the North end of the strip, the observation deck is tiny, covered in steel mesh and more expensive than the Strat. Don’t bother.
There you go. Sorry if I cannot be of more help but I call them as I see them. I do not know what rate you got but neither of these are very high up on my list.

It has been a few years since I stayed there, so it may have changed, but it was a small cheap hotel on Fairfax, just south of Willoughby I think (or maybe closer to 3rd??). It was on the west side of the street.

Take the Red Line one exit north to get to Universal. I’m not sure but I think Warner is off Riverside Dr. (way on the other side of the hill from Universal). I suspect there is a bus going down that main drag ????? Ask when you get to Universal…

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel, not too expensive near Universal Studios Hollywood for a family with 2 young children? I’m going crazy looking in so many places and different reviews that scare me. So far I’m looking at the Holiday Inn Express Universal City-Cahuenga, but want someone to give me other options from their experience staying there. I want a pool and continental breakfast included. Please help, anybody out there. We want to go for 2nts on Nov. 23rd.
