The Lost City (2006)
starring Andy Garcia, Ines Sastre, Tomas Milian, Richard Bradford, Nestor Carbonell, Dustin Hoffman, Bill Murray, Steven Bauer, Jsu Garcia (Nick Corri), Julio Oscar Mechoso
IMDB synopsis:
In Havana, Cuba, in the late 1950s, a wealthy family, one of whose sons is a prominent nightclub owner, is caught in the violent transition from the oppressive regime of Batista to the Marxist government of Fidel Castro. Castro's regime ultimately leads the nightclub owner to flee to New York.
IMDB review:
Andy Garcia's efforts and love for this movie and Cuba is clearly evident. This movie represents a lot for us Cubans; it depicts the actual events that occurred and still occur in Cuba. Those who are unfamiliar with Cuba and its history should definitely see this movie to understand where we are coming from. Open your eyes and really see our pain, our tears, our joy, our traditions, our history. This movie will always have a special place in my heart. I never have seen Cuba nor wish to see it in its current conditions, but the Cuba that Andy and the cast portrayed in this glorious film is what I always imagined it to be. Thank you to those who made this film possible and who were brave enough to say the truth. To those critics who think that this movie is bogus, untrue, or radical: "Open your eyes!" To those who thought that Che was a hero, he wasn't! Please see this movie and learn about the Cuban culture and our history!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~…
The following film also covers these events:
Cuba (1979)
starring Sean Connery, Brooke Adams, Jack Weston, Hector Elizondo, Denholm Elliott, Martin Balsam, Chris Sarandon, Danny De La Paz, Lonette McKee, Alejandro Rey, Louisa Moritz
IMDB synopsis:
When British ex-army officer Robert Dapes arrives in Cuba to advise the Batista government on fighting the revolutionaries, he realizes that the cause is already lost, with well-organized rebels constantly gaining ground against poorly trained government troops. His difficulties are compounded when he runs into Alexandra, the love of his life, who has settled for a comfortable marriage that is now threatened by the revolution and by the exploits of her philandering husband.
